Bodie is a ghost town in far eastern California. Its heyday was in the late 1800s, but it's been a state park since the 1950s... kept in an 'arrested state of decay'.
The Sierra Nevada mountains are a spectacular range of jagged peaks running north to south along California's eastern edge.
San Francisco is on the central California coast. The more popular tourist areas can get crowded to the point of insanity during the summer. There are a ton of resources available to plan your trip - I don't have a whole lot of new information to add.
