| Photography by Jonathan Ley | The North Cascades | Glacier Basin

Glacier Basin is a rugged cirque just outside of the abandoned mining town of Monte Cristo, in the heart of the Cascade range. 100 years ago, this town was bustling with activity as the miners pulled copper, gold, silver and lead out of the rocks. Now, it's only accessible by a 4 mile walk or bike ride from the nearest road. The old buildings are maintained to the best of abilities. A few private homes are in the area as well. Some of them are abandoned, others appear to be kept up.
