Glacier Basin is a rugged cirque just outside of the abandoned mining town of Monte Cristo, in the heart of the Cascade range. 100 years ago, this town was bustling with activity as the miners pulled copper, gold, silver and lead out of the rocks. Now, it's only accessible by a 4 mile walk or bike ride from the nearest road. The old buildings are maintained to the best of abilities. A few private homes are in the area as well. Some of them are abandoned, others appear to be kept up.
Cascade Pass connects western Washington with the mountain valley that harbors Stehekin, at the head of Lake Chelan. The only way to get to Stehekin is by boat up the lake, or walking a trail like that over Cascade Pass.

Mt. Shuksan is a beautiful and dramatic 9,131ft peak at the western edge of the North Cascades. The western face of Mt. Shuksan is one of the most well-known mountain portraits - even though many people have no idea they're looking at Mt. Shuksan. But, the main climbing route is from the southeast, up a broad snowfield to the summit block.
