I’m not sure I can say much about this movie that hasn’t already been said. It does an excellent job of transporting you to a specific time and place… almost like a time machine. Perhaps that’s what we like about these movies – not the acting or the story… just the view through the window.

Age of Innocence
Yet another movie about sex. Sex a couple hundred years ago anyway… apparently it hasn’t changed much. Innocent? hardly.
The Unbearable Lightness of Being
Great cold war movie about the every-day dreariness behind the iron curtain. I especially liked the gloomy ending, very non-hollywood. Life is filled with sad endings, I wish people had more of a pallate for them in the movies.
There Will Be Blood
And there was. One man’s battle with everything – himself, his family, society, and even God. When he wins the last battle? the best line of the movie – I’m done. This wasn’t a life changing movie, but it was an intersting character study.
The Gangs of New York
A really rich and stylish film. It didn’t matter too much that there were a couple plot-holes and things which happened “for no reason”. I didn’t find it overly-violent either. Yes, it was violent, but they didn’t present the violence as the “focus” of the various scenes.
