Well… it was an interesting movie to watch. I suppose the characters were a little one-dimensional. I mean, even the main ballerina – it would have helped if there was some dark side to her past that she could draw upon. All we’re presented with is a basic innocent girl, who’s not very experienced in the world. Ok… but, how is it that she’s able to grow beyond this? She basically seems to get her motivation to change from nowhere, or from her own insanity or something. The filming in this movie was splendid, the acting was decent… but the story? meh.

Requiem For a Dream
Stunning and original (which, as a quote from me is neither stunning nor original). A sad and scary movie about the desperate places people can reach. I didn’t feel like crying at the end of this movie, though the end… and in fact the whole thing… was utterly depressing (which was a good thing). I just felt generally sad, perhaps questioning how far I was (or any of us were) from the state of the characters in the film. Pretty far, I hope. It was a difficult film to watch, but that’s exactly what made it so worth watching.

This was pretty unique. I think it’s the only mathematical mystery/conspiracy movie I’ve seen. This is the story: A mathematics genius discovers that the key to all kinds of perplexing chaotic systems is a single 216 digit number. This knowledge drives him toward insanity – the closer he gets to understanding it, the more his life falls apart (not that he had much of a life to begin with). This movie probably tells us something about something, but I’m not sure what… if you knew the ‘secret to everything’ what would you do? how would it affect you? The whole movie was filmed in black and white… which worked pretty well (I’m not usually a big fan of b&w) since the main character had a pretty simplistic black & white view of the world.
