Kevin Costner makes hit or miss movies… this one hit. There was a lot to like about this movie – the characters, the cinematography, the story… I’m sure that daily Indian life wasn’t as pleasant as portrayed in the movie, but that didn’t bother me so much. I liked the way that KC slowly transformed himself from civil war hero to “indian brave”. Totanka!!!

Waterworld
Like “the postman”, but with water. I actually liked this movie. I think that was because I wasn’t expecting it to be good at all. At the time it was released, it was the most expensive movie ever made.
Tin Cup
Kevin Costner needs to work on his swing, but at least it’s better than Don Johnson’s. The final sequence made this movie. They did a good job at getting to the real appeal of golf – you just know you can make the damn shot.
The Postman
Yes, the Kevin Costner movie that nobody saw. This movie had possibly the worst trailers I’ve ever seen. They made it out to be this epic story… I remember turning to the guy next to me in the theater and asking “is this a joke?”. I was serious, but… so was Kevin Costner. I’ve seen a lot of worse movies, I think ‘The Postman’ just got a bad vibe and was doomed before it ever came out. Some people have called this “waterworld without the water”. That’s actually a pretty good description. It’s about a loner in a post-apocalyptic world who accidentally finds something to believe in, and rises up against a tyrant (oh, he falls in love with a strong, independent woman too). Except in this one, Kevin is trying to get to the water (some ocean-side village) instead of land. The story & writing in this movie is a little better than waterworld, but the special effects weren’t as numerous. Remember how you felt about waterworld because you’ll probably feel the same way about this movie. If you haven’t seen either movie, you didn’t miss that much.
Field of Dreams
Kevin Costner does baseball… again. (or was this his first baseball thing?) Anyway, I never really understood the supposed “magical” quality of baseball. It’s just a game. It’s not even a good metaphor for anything. I think this movie was more about the power of mass hypnosis and mind control than anything. I wonder if people still visit the actual farm field that was used in the film…
