Ok Inception, I get it… you’re trying to mess with my mind. But, how hard is it to do that when you make all the rules, and don’t tell me the information I need to make an informed decision? Ya, it was interesting, and I suppose I would recommend it as a decent movie, but it didn’t rock my world or anything. I heard some people were going on and on about how confused and twisted the plot was. I really didn’t find it too confusing… you just had to pay attention to what was going on, and what was being said.

The Beach
This movie was pretty full of itself. It was rather predictable too – of course paradise is going to fall apart. Some things just didn’t make sense either – why in the world wouldn’t they try to save the shark victim’s life? couldn’t they boat him to civilization and just say that he got bit by a shark? come on, people “cool” enough to live in a secret island commune would be cool enough to save some guy’s life.
Basketball Diaries
About the drug-underworld of high school basketball. I’ve actually heard from some people that this does exist. After all, the movie is based on a book – a true-life story. It was well-done, but essentially, it had “been done” before – how far does an addict need to go to hit rock bottom? Pretty darn far.
Blood Diamond
Brilliant from start to finish… While there were a few plot points that tried a little too hard, the excellent acting, direction and pacing made you overlook that. The charaters were all quite deep, and still fully developed in a short running time. However, you might feel about Leo DiCaprio, he earns his creds with stuff like this.
Titanic
You’ve probably already seen it, so I won’t bother you with another review. I did like it though.
The Man in the Iron Mask
Few people had kind words to say about this, but I liked it. Sure, it was a bit predictable, but stories like this usually are. I think people didn’t like it because of a subconscious backlash against Leonardo DiCaprio. This movie came out soon after Titanic. I think people wanted Hollywood’s golden boy to flounder a little. Sure, this movie wasn’t awesome or anything, but it was decent.
The Gangs of New York
A really rich and stylish film. It didn’t matter too much that there were a couple plot-holes and things which happened “for no reason”. I didn’t find it overly-violent either. Yes, it was violent, but they didn’t present the violence as the “focus” of the various scenes.
