The Poison Oak Page

I created this page before I hiked the PCT, and added a couple photos when I got back.  I didn't see a lot of Poison Oak along the PCT, I wouldn't worry about it too much if I were you.  I got rid of some of the pictures, and have added a couple of my own.  I thought of scrapping this whole page, but it's actually one of the most popular pages on phlumf.com - go figure! So I guess I'll just leave it. I haven't bothered with thumbnails...

Some Poison Oak next to the PCT between Sierra City and Belden.

Poison Oak, with my hand as a size reference.

Poison Oak is in the middle.  Poison Ivy is at the right... I'm told that the plant on the left is called "basket bush".  Note how the PO center leaf has its own stem.

Note the PO flowers.

These are PO seed pods.  I'm not sure of the actual size in proportion to the leaves.  It's important to note that even "dormant" PO (without leaves) is a problem.  Looking for these seed pods might be one way to identify dormant PO.

Another photo of some "red" PO

This is the only photo I could find of PO "stems" without leaves.

A red/green mix.  Note how undefined the edges of the leaves are.  They don't look like "oak leaves".

A very green example.
