May 2015 – Willamette Mission State Park, Oregon
My only sighting & only photo… and I only saw this for a fleeting moment. Strange how these birds can live amongst us, but remain so hidden.

Once called Oldsquaw, these diving ducks often sport a long tail… though, this one looked a bit shabby… getting ready for a long winter.
Not the greatest photo of a Tufted Puffin, but all I could manage in the conditions… I’m sure a better photo is in my future, somewhere… sometime.
May 2014 – Kiger Mustang Special Area, Oregon
The abundant dead Junipers in this area provide great habitat for cavity-nesting birds like this Mountain Bluebird.
May 2014 – Malheur National Wildlife Refuge, Oregon
I was a bit surprised to see this bird… at the very western edge of its range. I’d always associated them with, well… the eastern part of the US. But, here it is, and apparently well documented as it has a band on its leg.
May 2014 – Malheur National Wildlife Refuge, Oregon
Yes, it’s a pretty blurry photo, but the only one I have of this relatively uncommon bird.
April 2014 – Fern Ridge Lake, Eugene, Oregon
These birds are not uncommon, yet not seen too often either. This happened to be a first sighting for me, just one bird.
March 2013 – Sauvie Island, Oregon
As common as these birds are, they’re quite skittish. You’d think a tough little bird like this would stand its ground more boldly, but no.
March 2013 – Sauvie Island, Oregon
Not the best photo, but my time with this pair was fleeting… they only appeared for a few moments among a number of other species.
February 2013 – The Sloth Sanctuary, Costa Rica
A group of these were jumping through the branches along the side of a small slough. I only had a few moments to snap a photo… so it’s not the best, but good enough to post, I suppose.
