February 2016 – Ankeny National Wildlife Refuge
I see these from time to time, but they almost always seem to be sleeping the day away far in the middle of the water. This one is a bit drab with Winter coloring, but not too bad…

These birds are spreading rapidly throughout England… some even in larger colonys. Interesting to see what one thinks is a warm-climate bird make a go of it in colder regions. I suppose they’re smart & adaptable… and they have feathers to stay warm.
This birds are a lot more striking in breeding season. This one was settling down for a long winter.
It’s a bit special for an American to finally see the “original” birds, with no prefix attached. This one, is simply “Coot”.
These little guys just go, go, go… it’s rare to see one sitting still the 1/1000 of a second needed for a decent photograph.
Not the prettiest Snow Goose, but there it was… a solo representative wandering amongst other species of geese.
This was right around the end of the season for seeing puffins in the Alaskan waters. Soon, they would all be headed for the open ocean for winter.
July 2014 – Lake Superior shoreline
This one was poking around some roadside shrubs along the north shore of Lake Superior.
Another shot of another bird, in the same vicinity.
May 2014 – Malheur National Wildlife Refuge, Oregon
A Forster’s Tern glides over the wetlands… Not much else to say about this one.
May 2014 – Malheur National Wildlife Refuge
This area is at the very western edge of the Bobolink’s range, but here they are… in a particular marshy meadow not far from Frenchglenn, they appear to be particularly happy.
