Núpar
We arrived at a large mesa-type of formation called Núpar. At this point, we had a choice: continue hiking the high hills above, or continue along the base of the cliffs below. After taking into consideration our schedule and limited knowledge of the terrain ahead, we decided to go low. The cliffs above us were alive with nesting birds, mostly Fulmars and a few Gannets. They rode the air currents rising up the face of the cliffs. Eventually, the cliffs squeezed us onto a road. We continued along this for a few miles before finding camp along a small river.
Somewhere along the way, I'd stressed my right achilles tendon. It was a bit sore, and creaked when I slowly flexed it. It was an early sign of tendonitis, a potentially serious condition - especially considering that we had 350 miles left hike. So, to help relieve the pressure on my achilles, I started walking with a deliberate limp - something I continued for nearly the entire trip.
