Kachemak Bay is a body of water in the south part of the Kenai Peninsula. A road reaches the town and port of Homer, Alaska on the western side of the bay. A couple smaller towns, many cabins, and a state park are on the eastern side - a 20-minute boat ride away.
The area inland of the Chugach Mountains, from Anchorage to Valdez is some of the most accessible land in Alaska, but still remote, sparsely-populated and wild.
Alaska's Kenai Peninsula is one of the more popular and accessible parts of Alaska. But it's still filled with the kind of wild open spaces that define the state.
