Strengjárett
After resting part of the day in the town of Reykjahlið near the lake Mývatn, we headed south into the uninhabited highlands. Though, we'd barely seen anyone in the "inhabited" part of Iceland, so we wondered what the distinction was. In the evening we passed by these ruins, identified on our (now more detailed) map as Strengjárett. There was no further description. We had no idea how old they were. Though, a few hundred years ago, Iceland was warmer, and this area was likely more lush. This was probably an old farmstead, once surrounded by green fields. Now, either overgrazed and/or a victim of a changing climate, it was a grave marker for what once was.
We camped nearby, and woke up covered in dust that blew all night into our "sealed" tent.
