Hamarskriki
The next part of our route took us into the Hamarskriki highlands. This area looked brief on the map, and hardly worth noting. But what I didn't realize was the amazing view it afforded over the surrounding areas. We had wonderful weather, and the massive ice sheet of Vatnajökull was visible stretching to the horizon. The only trouble we had was that all the hills looked the same, and navigation was difficult. I'd mapped out some waypoints, but when we got to the area we decided to follow some faint 4wd tracks instead. These did provide an easy path, but it was somewhat circuitous. By the time we headed down the hills, we were tired from the climbing and the ever-present wind. We finally spotted a hut in the distance and headed wearily toward it.
