The Indiana Dunes, on the shore of Lake Michigan were made a National Park in 2019. When this place is busy, it's still interesting, but crowded. Go there on an early winter's morning if you want to get a taste of the natural world, even when you're surrounded by an urban expanse for a hundred miles in every landward direction.
