The Pasayten Wilderness is a large mountainous area to the east of North Cascades National Park in the northern reaches of Washington State.

The Skagit River is the main watershed of the western slopes of the North Cascades, from the crest near Rainy Pass, to the deep valley of Diablo Lake, and out to the fertile river delta along Puget Sound.

Mt. Baker is a 10,781ft volcano on the west side of the North Cascades. It's right in the middle of one of the wettest parts of the northwest, and consequently is covered in thick white glaciers. Numerous hiking trails lead up to and around the mountain from all sides.

Copper Ridge is in the northwest corner of North Cascades National Park. While a trail traverses the ridge, it's only melted-out for a few months a year.

Glacier Peak is located in the North Cascade Mountains of Washington State, northwest of the town of Wenatchee. This dramatic and wild landscape is one of the wildest places in the the lower 48 US states, part of nearly unbroken chain of wild lands stretching from the Canadian border south almost to Oregon.

3 miles beyond the end of Icicle Creek Road, Frosty Creek heads steeply upslope to the alpine highlands of Icicle Ridge. A trail follows this path into the heavens.

The Methow Valley is located in north-central Washington State. The town of Winthrop is most often considered the hub of the area. The valley is a great place to visit in any season. But, keep an eye on the weather forecast... and remember - hwy 20 is closed in the winter, cutting off easy access from/to the west.

The Enchantment Lakes area of the north cascades is a unique and spectacular place. This high alpine landscape is located in the southeast part of the North Cascade range. It's famous for jagged peaks, smooth granite rock, and crystal clear magical lakes.

Easy Pass is located in the eastern part of North Cascades National Park. The trail to the pass is only about 4 miles, and is in fact, pretty easy... at least by North Cascades standards. It's a gateway to some of the most spectacular mountain scenery in the US.

Mt. Pugh rises like a spike out of the vast forests of the North Cascades. A fire lookout was once perched on top of this pinnacle. Today, a rugged and rocky trail heads to the top.

Glacier Basin is a rugged cirque just outside of the abandoned mining town of Monte Cristo, in the heart of the Cascade range. 100 years ago, this town was bustling with activity as the miners pulled copper, gold, silver and lead out of the rocks. Now, it's only accessible by a 4 mile walk or bike ride from the nearest road. The old buildings are maintained to the best of abilities. A few private homes are in the area as well. Some of them are abandoned, others appear to be kept up.

Cascade Pass connects western Washington with the mountain valley that harbors Stehekin, at the head of Lake Chelan. The only way to get to Stehekin is by boat up the lake, or walking a trail like that over Cascade Pass.

Deception Creek flows from the northern part of the Alpine Lakes Wilderness toward the Skykomish River. This valley is filled a rich and untouched old-growth forest.

Rock Mountain is a peak just northeast of Stevens Pass. A steep trail ascends about 4500ft from the base to the summit.

The Necklace Valley is located in the Alpine Lakes Wilderness of the North Cascades Mountains in Washington. The trailhead is a few miles east of Skykomish, WA along Hwy 2.

Sauk Mountain is a prominent peak in the western foothills of the North Cascades. A popular trail heads to the top for spectacular views... when the weather cooperates.

Mt. Shuksan is a beautiful and dramatic 9,131ft peak at the western edge of the North Cascades. The western face of Mt. Shuksan is one of the most well-known mountain portraits - even though many people have no idea they're looking at Mt. Shuksan. But, the main climbing route is from the southeast, up a broad snowfield to the summit block.

Mt. Stuart rises 9,415ft, towering above the nearby peaks in the eastern part of the North Cascades.

Jack Mountain is one the biggest mountains in Washington's North Cascades that you've never heard of, or seen. Rugged peaks abound in this area just to the east of Ross Lake. From Desolation Peak to Crater Mountain and much more, it's a backpacker's dreamland.
